Patrick O'Neill Sweeps Formula Mazda Challenge Weekend
Weaver and Slone split Mazdapalooza class victories
May 14, 2007. Sonoma, CA. Victory lane has become a familiar sight for Patrick O’Neil, pilot of the #64 O’Neill Construction World Speed Motorsports Pro Formula Mazda, as he swept rounds seven and eight of the Formula Mazda Challenge at Infineon Raceway this past weekend, holding off series newcomer Taylor Hacquard for the top spot on the podium in both events.
“It was another solid weekend and the car was working perfectly,” O’Neill explained. “Thanks go out to everyone at World Speed for their work on the car and for another successful race weekend.”
While O’Neill has a stranglehold on the championship with seven victories in eight races, this weekend’s revelation was Surrey, British Columbia native Hacquard. Making his formula car racing debut after two years of karting, Hacquard captured two second place finishes behind the wheel of the #90 Wolfe Auto Group World Speed Motorsports Pro Formula Mazda.
Saturday’s podium would be completed by Dave House in the #86 Brocade Credence World Speed Motorsports Pro Formula Mazda, while Paul la Haye would capture the final podium spot on Sunday in the #4 North Bay Neurosurgical Association World Speed Motorsport Pro Formula Mazda.
In the Mazdapalooza class, for drivers of the Standard Formula Mazda, Bill Weaver would capture his third victory of the season in the #67 James G Parker Insurance Mazda ahead of Craig Smith and Shawn Westerhoff while Jimmy Slone would take the top spot on Sunday, with Smith and Westerhoff completing the podium in second and third respectively.
Rounds Nine and Ten of the Formula Mazda Challenge and Mazdapalooza Championship will be held at Infineon Raceway on June 8-9. |
