Formula Car Challenge Drivers Successful Across The Globe
Bringing home trophies and awards in open wheel, prototypes, and sedans

Podium on Saturday of the GoPro Grand PrixFormula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear competitors are showing up all over the map, and winning some very serious races and championships. Here's where you'll find them, and what they have accomplished so far.

This year Neil Alberico was selected as a Team USA Scholarship driver and competed at the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain this month on the renowned Silverstone Arena circuit, home of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. Alberico won the heat race, and finished third in the final. Last season he competed in select FCC presented by Goodyear races in the Pro FM, and FM categories. He then moved to the United Kingdom to compete in the very competitive British FF1600 series. In his first race of the season he secured the pole position, and won the race by 11 seconds. Alberico was also the 2010 Bondurant Formula Mazda Champion. In January of 2012 it was announced that Alberico would run in the Mazda Road to Indy USF2000 Championship. Zac Silver will be Alberico's USF2000 teammate. Silver raced in the Midwest Region Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear finishing 4th in the regional championship and 2nd in the NASA National Championship.

Doug Peterson, a long time competitor in the FCC, is competing in the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear FM class in the South East Region for 2011. Peterson has won the Ferrari Challenge, the SCCA Runoffs, and countless races in a variety of cars. In 2011 Peterson did select races in the Trans-Am series and was the fastest Trans-Am driver at the Road America event. Peterson also won one of the heat races at the NASA FCC National Championships in the Formula Mazda class. Late in 2011 it was announced that Peterson would be partnered with Dodge in their return to Grand Am Competition.

2011 Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear National FM Champion Darryl Wills went on to win the 2011 SCCA FM National Championship, and became a "Super Sweep" champion. The SCCA Super Sweep recognizes drivers that win a key national event, the nation-wide points championship, their divisional championship and the SCCA National Championship Runoffs-all in the same class.

Michael Guasch and Dane Cameron won the 59th Annual 12 Hours of Sebring, after a record breaking qualifying time by Cameron. Guasch has been competing in the 2011 British GT Championship and led the championship from rounds three to eight. He completed the season 6th overall. Guasch has raced in the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear since 2005, and has a large collection of pole awards and wins to his credit. He is currently tied for first place in the 2011 FCC series with two races left.

Cameron raced the #41 Dempsey Racing Mazda RX-8 GT in the 2011 Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series and closed out the season in 7th place. Team Sahlen recently announced that Cameron will be joining their three car Mazda RX-8 campaign in the 2012 Grand American ROLEX Series. Cameron raced in the FCC Indy GP of Sonoma event in 2010, and won both races in the Pro FM category. Guasch will be competing in the 2012 ALMS LMP2 Category with Memo Gidley.

Tristan Vautier competed in the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear this season to gain additional track time and experience, then he went on to win the 2011 Star Mazda Overall Championship. Tristan will be competing in the 2012 Indy Lights Championship.

Jorge Goncalvez, who won the 2009 FCC Winter Series Championship in the Pro FM class, moved up into Indy Lights for 2011. Goncalvez finished the 2011 season in 5th place.

Patrick O'Neill, the 2010 FCC NASA National Champion in the Pro Formula Mazda class, jumped into the 2011 Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship. In his most recent race he finished 2nd, and finished 6th overall in the championship even though he missed 6 races. O'Neill has won multiple championships, and countless races in the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear in his Pro Formula Mazda.

Nick Mancuso, who raced in the FCC West Coast Region this year is making plans to compete in the 2012 24 Hours of Daytona in an Aston Martin Prototype.

Juan Piedrahita, who competed in the 2009 FCC Winter Series Championship in the Pro FM class, finished 7th overall in the USF2000 series.

After two years of racing in the US in the Star Mazda Series, the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear, and the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series, Adam Christodoulou headed home to the UK to compete in the 2011 Le Mans Series behind the wheel of a Ferrari 430. Christodoulou closed out the season by putting his Ferrari on the podium at Estoril. Christodoulou won the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear Uncorked event at Mazda Raceway in 2009.

Chris Cumming won the 2007 FCC West Coast Pro FM Championship, and went on to win two back-to-back Star Mazda championships. In 2010 he entered the IMSA GT3 Challenge, and finished on the podium four times finishing 4th overall in the championship. Cumming raced in the 2011 IMSA Challenge and finished the season in the top 10 even though he missed two races. Cumming is planning to compete at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill this December.

Taylor Hacquard, who was on the FCC podium multiple times in 2007, moved from the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear into the Star Mazda series and now competes in a MAZDASPEED3 in the Continental Tire series. He's a prime example of what a young driver can achieve on Mazda's ladder. Hacquard has also been doing select endurance events including this year's 24 Hours of Daytona in a Mazda RX8.

"We are proud of these drivers and all of our racers, as this is a very difficult sport." noted Series Official Ben Hettema. "When these drivers move up and go and win a world class event like Sebring that just makes all the hard work we do worth it. We hope to have more of our alumni take some serious wins next season, and having watched them up close and personal I know it's going to happen."

Racers have been using the FCC as a springboard to pro racing since 2005, and many of them continue to race in the series in between their other events. Racing in the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear is very cost effective was to stay competitive.
