2017 Formula Car Challenge Winter Series Schedule Announced

The events on the schedule for the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear ninth annual winter championship were announced today. The competition will take place over two winter weekends in Southern California. A total of 4 races will be scored for the championship, and drivers will compete on three unique courses. At Auto Club Speedway, both races will take place on the infield road-course, and at Buttonwillow Raceway Park drivers will compete on different tracks each day.

"We are very pleased to be able to provide the opportunity for drivers and teams to prepare for the 2017 season with an organized winter championship," explained series official Ben Hettema. "This is a great place for drivers and teams to get started as they gear up for next season."

  • Race 1 Auto Club Speedway January 14th
  • Race 2 Auto Club Speedway January 15th
  • Race 3 Buttonwillow Raceway Park February 11th
  • Race 4 Buttonwillow Raceway Park February 12th

“In the past many pro teams and drivers have joined the usual west coast based racers in preparation for their upcoming seasons." Jorge Goncalvez, who won the FCC Winter Championship in 2009 went on to finish 6th in points in the Indy Lights championship in 2013. 2012 Pro FM class Winter Series Champion Zach Veach closed out the 2016 season fourth overall in Indy Lights. Gabby Chaves, who won the Indy Lights Championship in 2014, and has competed in INDYCAR, is also an FCC Winter Series Alumni scoring two race wins in 2012.

The Formula Car Challenge is an open wheel racing series powered by Mazda - It features 3 classes, the Pro Formula Mazda, The Formula Mazda, and the FormulaSPEED2.0. These are the fastest open wheel cars racing on the West Coast of the United States - Series is based in California
